This is the facial Guinot built its reputation on, and Sandra performs it on the newest generation machine at her clinic in Die Wilgers, Pretoria East. Rather than leaving active gels to sit on the surface, it carries them into the skin using a low-level current, so the ingredients arrive in the layer where they can actually do something.

It suits skin that has stopped responding to products. The change is usually visible before you leave the room: plumper, brighter and considerably less tired than when you sat down.

Suitability

Is this facial right for you

  • Skin that looks dull and tired even when you are sleeping properly
  • Dehydration that comes back by mid-afternoon no matter what you drink
  • Mature skin that has lost its firmness and needs energy rather than another rich cream
  • A visible result before a wedding, a shoot or a birthday, with no needles and no recovery
  • A first appointment where you would like your skin properly diagnosed before committing to anything

The science

How it works

Three techniques inside one hour, in the order the treatment is conducted.

Thermal stimulation

A thermal warming phase incorporated with active ingredients to help with penetration and diffusion of the ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin, whilst increasing circulation. This is what produces the colour afterwards that everyone comments on.

Ionisation

A gentle current into the skin that is hardly felt, to carry Guinot's active ingredients deeper into the skin. The gels are selected after Sandra examines your skin, so a dehydrated skin and a pigmented skin never receive the same treatment.

Massage

A slow, methodical massage through the jaw, brow and temples that releases tension most people do not know they are holding, with anti-aging movements for added benefit. This tends to be the part clients remember.

How many treatments you will need

One session gives a real result immediately, which is why it works so well before an event. For lasting change, Guinot's protocol is a course of three, roughly a week apart, followed by maintenance every four to six weeks. The Hydradermie packages are priced for exactly that rhythm.

Afterwards

No downtime. Makeup can go straight back on, although most people would rather not. Skin may look slightly flushed for an hour or two, which is circulation rather than irritation. Before you leave, you will be shown the two products at home that will hold the result, and the ones you own that are quietly working against it.

Honest advice

Before you book

  • Because the treatment uses a current, mention it before booking if you are pregnant, have a pacemaker or another implanted electrical device, have epilepsy, have metal plates or implants in the face, have had Botox or filler recently, or have an active skin infection in the area.
  • If you are looking for a surgical result, a facial will not replace a lift, and Sandra will say so rather than sell you a course.

Good to know

Frequently asked questions

No. The current is very low. Most people describe a faint tingle or nothing at all, and a fair number fall asleep during the massage.

Straight after the first session. Hydration and glow are visible the same day. Firmness builds across a course.

Usually yes, because the gels are matched to your skin rather than fixed. Sensitivity, redness or an active breakout are assessed on the day, and Sandra will adapt the treatment or suggest something more suitable.

A standard facial works on the surface. Hydradermie uses a current to deliver actives below it, so the result is more visible and holds for longer.

Single treatments and packages are priced at the clinic. Send an enquiry and Sandra will talk you through what your skin genuinely needs before you commit to anything.
